Shopify AI Chatbot Widget: Answer Shopper Questions on Your Shopify Store

Use the builder below to create a free AI chatbot for your Shopify store. Enter your store’s address and click “Create” to set up an assistant that learns from your content.

Shoppers ask the same things before they buy: Do you ship to my country? How long does delivery take? What’s your returns policy? Which size should I get? An AI chatbot can answer from your own store content and documents, so shoppers get a reply even when you’re offline. You build and train it in your browser, then add it with a Custom Liquid section in the theme editor. No app from the Shopify App Store is needed.

How to add an AI Chatbot widget to Shopify

1. Create your widget

  1. Create your agent: enter your store’s address and click “Create“. The builder scans the site, builds a knowledge base and gives the agent a name, icon, role and tone of voice.
  2. Train it on your store in the Knowledge tab: upload your shipping, returns and size guides (PDF, DOCX, TXT, JSON, PPTX, HTML or MD), add common questions and answers, and describe your products.
  3. Shape the agent in the Agent tab: set its role, tone of voice and answer length, write a greeting and suggested questions such as “Shipping times” or “Returns”, and add conversation rules for what it should or shouldn’t say.
  4. Add skills in the Skills tab: a lead form, action buttons, a follow-up message when a visitor goes quiet, handoff to a person by email, call or WhatsApp, and bookings through Calendly or Cal.com.
  5. Style and save it: in Settings, choose a floating bubble, floating input or embedded chat window and set the theme and colors to match your store, then click “Add to website for free“, sign up and copy your embed code.

2. Add it to your Shopify site

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes and click Customize.
  2. Use the page selector at the top to open the template you want, for example the home page, the default product template or a custom page.
  3. Click Add section › Custom Liquid and paste the chatbot code.
  4. Drag the section into position and click Save.
  5. To make the chatbot available across the store, add the Custom Liquid section to the theme’s footer area instead, which appears on every page.
  6. Open the live store and ask the chatbot a shipping or returns question to test it.

Where to put the AI Chatbot widget on your Shopify site

  • On the default product template, so product pages can answer sizing, materials and delivery questions. A section added there appears on every product page that uses the template.
  • On your FAQ, shipping or returns page, with those policies in its training.
  • On the home page, for first-time visitors asking what you sell and where you ship.
  • In the footer area, so shoppers can ask from any page, including collection pages.

Do you need a paid Shopify plan?

No. You add the chatbot with a Custom Liquid section in the theme editor, so there’s no app to install and no extra Shopify subscription. Where you put the section decides where it shows: one template covers every page using that template, and the footer area covers the whole store.

The chatbot’s free plan includes 50 messages a month and 10 million characters of knowledge storage, with a small Elfsight link; the chatbot pauses when the monthly limit is reached, and paid plans include more messages. A store-wide chatbot can get more conversations, so check the monthly message limit before you choose a plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Shopify app for the AI chatbot?

No. Paste the code into a Custom Liquid section in the theme editor. There’s nothing to install from the Shopify App Store.

How do I show the chatbot on every page of my store?

Add the Custom Liquid section to your theme’s footer area. The footer appears on every page, so the chatbot loads store-wide.

Why does the chatbot only show on some product pages?

Products can use different templates. A section only appears on pages that use the template you edited, so add it to each product template you use, or put it in the footer area.

Can the chatbot answer questions about shipping and returns?

Yes, once you train it on them. Upload your policies or add them as questions and answers, and the assistant uses that content in its replies.

Is the AI chatbot free for Shopify stores?

Yes. The free plan includes all core chatbot features, 10 million characters of knowledge storage and 50 messages a month, with a small Elfsight branding link. The chatbot pauses when the monthly limit is reached; paid plans include more messages, such as 300 a month on Basic.
